In the winter, you can expect motor racing on ice, comedy festivals, ski races and various live music gigs.
During the summer months, the focus turns to cycling with the Tour de France usually passing through town. The Megavalanche, a mass-start mountain bike race that draws thousands of MTB fans from around the world, takes place in July. There is a multitude of activities on offer in Alpe d'Huez other than skiing and snowboarding. These include walking, climbing, rafting, horse riding. However, it is the mountain biking and road cycling for which the region is most renowned.
The area also has a number of more leisurely pursuits including forested trails, markets and a number of spa facilities. There are also several museums in the area showcasing the local heritage and culture. Covering an area of 10, hectares, Alpe d'Huez boasts km of linked pistes spanning an altitude range from m to m.
On top of this, there are two snowparks, a boardercross park and a halfpipe. Cycling and mountain biking are particularly popular but there's plenty more on offer. From fine gourmet restaurants, crepes and local specialities such as fondue and raclette to international cuisine including pizza, burgers and much more. Alpe d'Huez holds a fine reputation for its nightlife. Accommodation in Alpe d'Huez is mainly self-catered apartments located in chalet-style buildings.

There are also off-piste runs for those with more gnarly tastes! Miles of trails that lead to quaint towns with wonderful restaurants and scenery. We stayed at the Pic Blanc, which is within walking distance of the slopes and apres shopping. It is a good 3 star hotel with very comfortable rooms and well appointed bathrooms.
The "phone booth" for the free internet is a busy spot! There are fabulous views of the valley and mountains from every window. Ski rental is convenient and reasonable. Overall, an excellent place to ski and sleep!
The mountain road to Alpe d'Huez is incredible! Amazing to believe that the Tour de France use this for their mountain climbs! The scenery is breath-taking! Every where you look from the Pic Blanc the views are wonderful.
The skiing is for every ability: challenges or cruising options. The on mountain restaurants are plentiful, atmospheric and delicious! So very French! The Pic Blanc is a good value 3 star hotel.
