If you want to take your kids trick-or-treating this year, Toms River will do it on Halloween, according to township officials. To avoid clashing with the annual Toms River Halloween Parade, trick-or-treating is normally held on Oct. Since its inception in , the parade has nearly always taken place on Halloween.
Trick-or-treating was relocated to Oct. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, it is the second-largest in the world. That allowed families to attend — or march in — the parade, which annually draws thousands to the township's downtown. An agreement with local clergy made in the parade's early years means it's never held on a Sunday. This year's rain date is Monday, Nov.
